Topics that should be covered include:
  1. Data base structure: you should start by deciding how you will organise and store your data
  2. Data compatibility: where you are using a variety of travel surveys and data sources you should identify all significant inconsistencies between them and decide how these can be overcome. This is an example of a specification for the Auckland travel surveys.
  3. Data acceptance: all incoming travel survey data should be checked to make sure that it is acceptable.
  4. Processing, expansion and bias correction of household travel survey data: turning the raw data into useful information for transport modelling. This is an example of a specification of minimum information content which is important to data acceptance and this is an example of the processing (for Auckland).
  5. Processing and expansion of road intercept survey data. This is an example of the processing for the Auckland roadside cordon intercept survey.
  6. Processing and expansion of public transport passenger intercept survey data. This is an example of the data processing for the Auckland travel surveys.
  7. Combined data processing: combine data from the different sources to make best use of each in estimating travel patterns. This is an example of the data processing for the Auckland travel surveys.
  8. Process journey time surveys
  9. Assemble network inventory data: this is data describing the transport networks that will be used in coding the network model
  10. Count data processing: review, collect and process road vehicle and public transport passenger counts for travel survey expansion and model validation
  11. Extract key data files: set up the data files needed for transport model development
